A Dozen Cousin's Cuban Black Beans
Tasting Notes
Earthy, mild, fake sofrito-y??
Weekly Review
Apologies for this bean review being a day late! I didn't eat any beans start of the week and since this is a site built on integrity and honesty, I had to wait until I actually ate some new beans, which happened today! This is how you know you can trust beansoftheweek as your #1 source for bean reviews.
Up this week is another bean selection from "A Dozen Cousins". This is their "Cuban Black Beans"... and I feel deeply offended on behalf of the Cuban people because I would NOT want to be associated with these beans.
Black beans are actually some of my favorites but they really butchered these beans. I think they tried to go for a sofrito-style flavor but it tasted very off. It was mild and earthy, but lacked some of the pazazz needed to impress.
I paired my beans with some rice and some nicely seasoned chicken, and THANK GOD I went heavy handed on the chicken seasoning because it made these beans palatable.
See you next week for some HOMEMADE beans, get hyped.
