Weekly Review
My girlfriend bought me a bunch of different beans (find yourself a partner that supports your dreams) so we're about to be stepping out of my classic canned baked bean niche into some new legume territory. This one is dedicated to the Fish Eaters Group Chatâ„¢.
This week's bean is A Dozen Cousins (are there really a dozen though?) Red Creole Beans (in a pouch!). This is a first in the series. This thing is not canned and it's not baked beans, it is Louisiana style creole red beans in a blend of different spices. It's tough trying to pack such a flavor-forward style of regional cooking into a mass produced product that can please the masses. Do I love these beans? Not really. Do I think they make a very acceptable side when you're in a pitch? Absolutely. They pair well with a side of rice and a nicely seasoned chicken thigh, and I'm having it on eggs this morning as I type this.
I wish those dozen cousins spiced this thing up a bit more, but I get that you don't want to completely burn off the tastebuds of a random person in Hannaford buying your beans so we'll take it.
